The Jamestown Library, Symbol Of The Town
One of the most well-
The former Jamestown Public School, the stately building was constructed in 1915, after the original Jamestown school was destroyed in a fire.
The building was designed by Raleigh architect Charles Hartge in the neoclassical style, featuring large ionic columns in front, elaborate brickwork, and front portico.
Standing in the heart of Jamestown, the school now serves as the public library and was saved from demolition due to a drive in the Jamestown community in the 1980’s.
One of the most important structures in the Jamestown community, the building often appears in materials that represent the town. The Jamestown News newspaper features a drawing of the Jamestown Library on its masthead on the front of the paper.
